  Comparison of Jan 14 and 15 days texts

  i couldn’t help but notice the juxtaposition of the day text for jan 14 and 15. the first is about following the disfellowshipping decree, the second is about showing compassion.

  i ask you, “if an active jw were to miss following both of these texts, which one would they most likely be counseled on?”.

  Hey Fink.

  You described it beautifully.

  It is completely irresponsible for a jw parent, in particular to wipe their hands of their own children if they get disfellowshipped.

  It is still happening in my own family to one of my siblings decades after the event. At what point do parents get to absolve themselves from blame for how their children turn out? It makes me sick.

  The exact opposite is the love and support I have witnessed in so called worldly parents that support and care for their own kids when they struggle in life.

  Elders encouraging young ones to live in a fairy tale

  so one of the elders at the meeting tonight addressed to parents in his talk, “if your child wants to flip burgers for the rest of their life, because that’s is the only job that will allow them to have a schedule for full time service, you would want to support them the best you can.” he has also said told parents that if their children already have plans to go to college, even in the near future, they should try to do everything to stop them.

  there’s so much ranting i could do about that alone, but to make matters worse, this is a considerably well off man.

  he has his own buisness, a nice house with an additional room he added on last year, and him and his wife just took a lavish european trip.

  Nothing more infuriating than a financially successful elder that works full time giving advice about how unimportant becoming financially successful is.

  One gag-worthy example where I live is an elder that became a dot-com multi millionaire arriving at our cong in his Mercedes giving this advice.

  Google ' end world predictions' and you will get a long list full of crack pots and charlatans that have tried to predict the date the world will end.

  Notable names like Jim Jones and Charles Manson are listed along with less well known people.

  One woman, living in the 1800's owned a chicken that laid eggs with the words ' christ is coming' written on them. It turned out the woman was etching the words onto an egg the chicken had already laid and re-inserted the egg into the chicken before inviting her friends over to witness the miracle of the fortune telling chicken.

  Usually though, once a person has been caught out, or their predictions don't come true, they stop making predictions because the world knows they are a fraud.

  Except for one group that appears not once but FIVE times on the list, over a 100 yr period. Anyone want to take a wild guess which group it is??? 🤔

  Yep, just like the magic chicken, the wts keep re-inserting the same egg and try to amaze the next generation with an end world prediction. Sometimes they add words to the egg like 'overlapping', or 'evidently' but it's still the same egg.

  'Serving where the need is greater' - who does it benefit?

  we have recently been in asia on vacation, travelling to a number of countries in this part of the world.

  whilst in thailand, my wife, totally pimo, wanted to go to the english speaking convention in bangkok.

  although i haven't been active for a very long time, i went along with her.. the first thing that slightly surprised me was the attendance, well over 900. i hadn't expected that many but they were from all over the country, which is a pretty big place.

  Someone recently started an interesting post about this, apologies for not remembering who it was.

  Aussies love Thailand because it's close and cheap. No surprise that quite a few JW couples live over there for a while, getting jobs like teaching English or whatever, to support themselves.

  Of course, in JW land, there always has to be a theocratic reason for making such a big move, so helping and supporting the local cong, or becoming a need-greater (gag) is the 'real' reason for the move to the tropics.

  Is there a surge in "Upwakers"?

  the stupid word in the topic title is a piss-take on the bloody silly jw word "needgreaters" that i have seen them use.. but my question is genuine, i know it is a cyclical thing, we get what seems to be a lot of newbies, and then things quieten down, but not just on here, elsewhere on social media i am seeing stories of people finding the courage to leave, having woken up for a variety of reasons, but usually the child abuse scandal, and the spiteful, judgmental nature of many jw's, who, though supposedly friends, will run off to the elders to snitch on you, not talk to you.

  is their a real increase in those leaving ?

  i do hope so, so many more finding real freedom and happiness !.

  100 yrs from 1914 - 2014 might have started the slide and the arrival of 2018, 100 yrs since the end of ww1 has sealed the deal?

  i can't say much out of fear of getting caught, but i overheard a jw i know on the phone with a friend talking about "how close we are to the end.

  " yeah, yeah, i know.

  we've been on the brink of armageddon for well over a century, but what struck me about this particular instance was what she said next.

  Googling 'end of world predictions' displays a long list in which JW's feature.

  The long list of failed prophecies , which includes Jim Jones and Charles Manson should embarrass anyone associated with any of the organisations on it. But it doesn't seem to worry dubs.

  There is power in knowing something that only your group knows and this gives average people a feeling of superiority over others.

  JW history has been pure speculation sold as unfailing prophecy.

  WT Child/Sexual Abuse Cases and etc

  i had this argument with my grandmother and uncles about scandals that the jw's covered up and whatnot, and they won't budge.

  i brought up the australian royal commission and of course they laughed.

  they then said that the governing body has never lost a sexual abuse case but the "person" who did the crime got charged.

  Hang in there. An elder friend of mine laughed when I raised the issue of the Wt involvement with the U. N. Another elder friend told me that the guardian newspaper that broke the story was successfully sued by the wt. 🙄

  They are making it all up in their heads. It's hard to reason with anyone like that.

  take away guns and they will find knives, poison, bombs , etc.. seriously, there are a lot of mentally unhealthy people!

  Minimus, someone has already pointed out in this thread that a person could feel ok today - then tomorrow start shooting.

  This latest shooting was headline news in Australia this morning, like every other mass shooting in the U. S. Personally I don't know why we have so much concern for what happens in the U.S. concerning gun laws. If you guys don't give a f%+k, why should the rest of us?

  The idea that so called 'good guys with guns' will save the day is a dangerous idea to risk your life with.

  During the shooting in Las Vegas there were people in the crowd licenced and carrying but didn't pull their guns out for fear of being mistaken for the shooter. This is just one example. Anyone that has done any kind of self defence classes involving the use of guns will tell you what a chaotic, deadly situation it is.

  It is so obvious to neutral outsiders looking at the U. S. gun violence that the problem isn't mental illness, it is the laughable ease with which almost anyone can get their hands on a 'tool', thats only function is to kill efficiently.
